Irv Barnett, MBA, CMPE, Founder

Irv BarnettLike his colleagues in V2V, Irv Barnett found his calling in health care administration. His expertise is with both independent and hospital-based physician groups, optimizing their partnerships with local health systems.  He has served as the President of California MGMA and is a featured speaker at industry meetings and conferences around the country. Providing exceptional leadership around value-driven practice management techniques, Irv helps practices survive and amid the transformation in health care.

Irv’s 40 year career in health care spans a vast array of roles, in managerial positions in hospitals and medical groups.  Irv has also managed practice mergers from orthopedics, urology, and primary care; providing the initial plan and daily on-site support to ensure a smooth transition. He has also developed and administered the UC Davis academic specialty clinic network, in the newly acquired Sacramento medical center. ( a small period of time out of 15 years in  diverse hospital management roles).  Irv regularly applies his expertise helping both independent and hospital-based physicians to optimize their relationships with local health systems.  In 2016, Irv joined forces with his long-time colleagues, Debra Wiggs, Michelle Wier, and Nancy Babbitt to found Vision to Value (V2V) practice management consultants. 

When working with a group of practices, Irv ensures the management team identifies the resources needed to innovate their operations.  Whether managing risk, strategic planning and branding, or implementing operational improvements, his work transforms often struggling organizations into successful, profitable practices.

Irv’s work helps identifying key revenue generating opportunities, create new workflows, benchmarking and optimizing revenue cycle controls, and forges new governance partnerships between all stakeholders in the organization.  He, along with the other founders of V2V is in the business of transforming health care, one practice at a time.

Before joining V2V, Irv spent 19 years managing the strategic growth and operational improvement of practice and health system clients at Moss Adams.

Q: What are the most often missed opportunities in delivering patient care?

A: “Every physician develops processes and clinical protocols that best supports their education and experience. Standardization is seen as an impediment to “practicing medicine.” However, when looked at as an opportunity to achieve improved staff support, less variation and confusion within the practice, and the flexibility to share clinical responsibilities with the practice, I have observed practices that can function with considerably less staff, improved patient interaction and the ability to gain consensus on key specialty protocols.”
